Nikolaus Gerszewski: Control (2014)

The noted motives are in nature finger exercises, to be repeated ad libitum, whereby the limits of tempo, timbre and dynamics should be explored. Each motive contains a minimal technical difficulty, which must be rehearsed, in order to be executed properly; while the processes of rehearsing and performing are virtually the same, insofar as rehearsal itself is based on repetition: with every repetition a player refines her technique, and as a result gradually develops an infinity of subtle modifications.
